In honor of Latin American Heritage Month, AM:PM Gallery has gathered a number of works by Latin American artists based in the Greater New York City area to celebrate the Latin New Yorkers which 'collectively gave New York City its flavor.' The gallery put out a call for artists to submit works which 'explore the complexities and beauty of Latin experiences in NYC; telling stories of resistance, identity, and interconnectedness.' Some notable artists, aside from myself, who were featured in the collection are Jeff Rose King, Mai Ospedales, and Ana Teresa Rodriguez whose works are common features on the walls of AM:PM Gallery space.
The piece I submitted is titled ‘A Mi Isla’ an ode to my island of Boriken. It was created during a time in my life where I was not only feeling disconnected to my craft but also to my people and culture.
